Bienvenidos! The Cuban Education and Culture program in Cuba will begin with an orientation and city tour of Havana. Studentswill take Upper Division UCD courses in Education, including an internshipworking with children in a Cuban school. Education courses will be taught by UC Davis faculty, and will also include many guest lectures by Cuban faculty sharing their expertise about the Cuban education system. In addition, students will take a course in Spanish language taught by faculty from the Casa de las Americas. All education courses count towards a minor in education!

 

Orientations

There will be one on-line general orienation and one country-specific orientation on campus; both are mandatory. There will also be by an in-country orientation upon arrival in Havana, Cuba.

Academics

Courses will examine education in Cuba with a focus on comparing the Cuban system with the American system..

While abroad, students will take:

Education 120: Social/Philosophical Foundations of Education (4 units)
Education 199: Comparative Education Policy (4 units)
Education 198: Special Topics in Education; Cuban Culture (4 units)
Education 192: Education Internship (1 unit)
Spanish 98/198 (2 units)
TOTAL = 15 units

 

The program will be hosted by Casa de las Americas which is the oldest and most prestigious cultural institution in Latin America and the Caribbean.
