Cuban and Latin American Cultures and Identities

ACCOMMODATIONS / MEALS

The Casa de las Americas is the oldest and most prestigious cultural institution in Latin America and the Caribbean. Founded by Haydee SantaMaria, Fidel Castro and Che Guevara in 1959, it is known throughout the world as the alternative to first world cultural institutions: Library of Congress, British Museum, the Louvre. In addition to its many cultural programs, the Casa maintains a residency where exchange scholars and students are housed. The residency consists of the two top floors in one of the highest buildings on the Havana waterfront, the famous Malecon, with unobstructed view of the Caribbean Sea. Residency housing and kitchen is supervised by Maria and her staff, dear to generations of students. Courses will be given at the Casa proper, a few blocks down the Malecon.

* Note: Lunches will be up to the individual student.
