Global Leadership, Internships, and Research
Women in Tech – Winter 2021 Mentor and Instructor Application
Apply to be an instructor or mentor for this free program with virtual instruction to people affected by conflict—to help them learn critical and marketable skills for their pursuit of higher education and employment. Courses offered: Python, Web Development, and Business Analytics. Applications reviewed on a rolling basis.
The “Other Collective” Gastropolitics Magazine Release Event
January 14, 6:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. The “Other Collective’s” third issue is centered on Gastropolitics—or, the politics of food—and covers social, healthcare, and economic inequalities from the U.S. to Palestine to India. The event will feature a panel focused on the ongoing farmer's agitation in India and the diasporas—through a religious, gendered, and caste-based lens.
Global Affairs Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) Internship
The virtual SDG intern will map projects to identify and catalog research, teaching, and service on SDGs at UC Davis. Responsibilities include managing contact lists, collecting and organizing data, assisting with strategies to involve faculty and students, organizing events, and liaising with student groups to build awareness. Deadline: January 15.
Global Ambassador Mentorship Program
Now recruiting mentors for 2021-22. In this year-long program, undergraduate student mentors are trained and then support incoming international undergraduate students with their transition to UC Davis. Make friends in a cross-cultural environment, build leadership skills, and receive transcript notation and a stipend for fall and winter quarters. Deadline: January 25.
Leadership Essentials Workshop Series: Global Perspectives
January 28, 6:10 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. What is culture and how does it affect the way we make meaning? Learn about different analogies of culture, and be introduced to a set of cultural dimensions that can help you further develop self-awareness and leadership skills in a globally-interconnected world.
Millennium Fellowship in Partnership with the United Nations
August – November. Free worldwide leadership development program for undergraduate students focusing on addressing United Nations goals (cohorts of 8-20 Millennium Fellows on each campus). Benefits include: certificate, network with global leaders, leadership training, and experience with community social change. Priority Application Deadline: January 31.
Center for Leadership Learning’s Student Leadership Conferences
February 4-6. Aggies Leading the Way! is a free leadership conference for undergraduate students from all majors. Build your leadership and professional skills through hands-on workshops and network with keynote speakers and students. This year’s theme is “Moving Through Disruptions.” Register.
Undergraduate Research Conference – Submit a Research Proposal
Submit an abstract to participate in the virtual Undergraduate Research, Scholarship & Creative Activities Conference April 28 – May 1. Research projects must have been conducted under the supervision of a faculty member or professional in the field. Global projects may be part of the “Global Aggie” category. Priority Deadline: February 9.
Fulbright US-UK Summer Institutes
Undergrads with 2+ years remaining can apply to spend 3-4 weeks in the UK at one of three summer institutes focused on: Technology, Innovation, and Creativity; Farming and Agriculture—Contemporary Issues; or Arts, Activism, and Social Justice. Register your interest. Deadline: end of February.
Competitions, Challenges, and Funding
Donald A. Strauss Scholarship
Scholarships of $15,000 are available to sophomore and junior level students of any citizenship status with a desire to “make a difference” in local, national, or international communities. Recipients implement a sustainable public service project anywhere in the world. Info Session (Zoom recording). Deadline: February 1.
David L. Boren Study Abroad Scholarship
Up to $20,000 scholarships toward study abroad in specific regions. Must include language study plans and commit to work in a federal position relating to national security for one year upon graduation. Preference to programs 6 months or longer—which aligns with many UCEAP programs. Deadline: February 3.
UCEAP Promise Awards
UCEAP will open Promise Award applications late January 2021 for 2021-22 study abroad programs. Awards of up to $2,000 will be announced in late March. You could be one of over 500 students selected for a Promise Award.
Charles B. Rangel International Affairs Summer Enrichment Fellowship for Undergraduates
June 14 – July 23. This program takes place at Howard University and provides undergrads with a deeper appreciation of current issues in international affairs and skills to pursue related careers. Includes tuition, travel to/from Washington D.C., housing, two meals/day, and a $3,200 stipend. Deadline: February 9.

January 5 – February 2, 3:30 p.m. – 5:00 p.m. Join your Cal Aggie Alumni Association, the official Alumni Association of UC Davis, for discussions on life after college. Each session focuses on the things we wish we knew about post-grad life: making friends, job searching, financial literacy, and taking a gap year before going to graduate school.
