Global Aggies Blog: A Journey of Language Learning

​​​​​​​​​​​​​​Kiara Zecha, a fourth-year Japanese major and education minor, has always had the goal of being bilingual. Through her hard work and commitment to her journey, Kiara has amassed multiple experiences and outlets to improve her Japanese language comprehension. She hopes to use these skills in her future career goal of teaching language abroad.

UC Davis Global Impact Fellows Program

​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​The Global Impact Fellows Program is a one-year commitment to leading or assisting a student-led initiative that addresses a global+local issue where students can hone project management, leadership and specific technical skills in an environment where they have real autonomy. UC Davis College Corps

​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​College Corps is a program dedicated to engaging college students in meaningful service to build leadership and civic responsibility. Fellows serve 450 hours over the academic year in an area of K-12 education, food insecurity or environmental stewardship. Info Session: April 17, 5:10–6 p.m. Apply.

International House Davis: English Practice Partners Volunteer Opportunity

​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​Volunteer with the International House Davis English Practice Partner Program where you will be paired with international visitors within our community. Join for about an hour a week of English conversation practice. No English teaching experience necessary. Complete the volunteer form.

St Andrews Study Abroad Award

​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​The St Andrews Study Abroad Award supports participation in the UCEAP University of St Andrews program. This award is open to UC Davis students who plan to attend the semester or academic year program at University of St Andrews in the 2025-26 application cycle. Award amount up to $7,000. Apply. Deadline: June 2.

Peter and Marion London Global Learning Innovation Award

​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​This award supports an annual project led by one or more UC Davis students who will partner with Nepali and/or Tibetan students on a project with a strong public benefit related to sustainable development for disadvantaged communities. Award amount up to $4,500. Deadline: April 11.

Youth Leader Fund for a World Without Nuclear Weapons

Join global efforts to eliminate nuclear weapons through the Youth Leader Fund. Through online courses, participants receive training in principles of nuclear disarmament, non-proliferation and arms control. Select students will travel to Japan for a week-long tour. Travel and accommodation costs are covered. Apply. Deadline: April 13.

Falling Walls Labs

​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​Falling Walls Labs are science/innovation slams where young researchers, students and entrepreneurs pitch innovative ideas or research that creates a positive impact on science and society to an interdisciplinary jury. Winners will be invited to the Falling Walls Conference in Berlin in November, with all expenses paid. Apply. Deadline: April 13.

APRU Global Health Virtual Case Competition

​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​Teams of three to six students will receive a challenge relating to a pressing global health problem and have up to 12 weeks to propose a solution. The winning team will be announced at the 2025 APRU Global Health Conference and will receive a $1,000 prize. Teams must be registered by April 19.

Future Nobel Laureates Scholarship Program

​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​This fully funded experience includes an online project-based course that begins in October 2025, an immersive field study and sessions at the Nobel Week Dialogue in Sweden in December 2025. Working in groups, students ideate and pitch innovative solutions for pressing global issues. Apply. Deadline: May 11.

Rhodes Scholarship at the University of Oxford in England

The Rhodes Scholarship is a fully funded opportunity to pursue a master’s or doctoral program at the University of Oxford in England for one to three years. Applicants must have a cumulative GPA of 3.7, or greater, and be age 18-27. Info Session: April 17, 1 p.m. Pre-application Deadline: June 30.

Fulbright U.S. Student Program

This program offers annual awards for U.S. citizens who will have bachelor’s degrees by the 2025-26 academic year to conduct research, study or teach English in over 140 countries worldwide. Program Spotlight: Community, Technology, and Sustainability in Nepal

​​​​​​​​​​​​​​Take a fall quarter seminar on campus and go abroad during the winter break, engaging in collaborative, interdisciplinary learning with Nepali students in Kathmandu and Pokhara. Explore Nepal's rich culture and work on community projects in sustainable development, fostering global skills and partnerships.

University of California Education Abroad Program (UCEAP)

​​​​​​​​​​​​​​2025-26 UCEAP winter and spring applications open April 15. UCEAP programs offer UC credit and financial aid. Program options include immersion, special focus, language and culture, and internships. Find a program.

UCEAP Exploring Your Identity Abroad Workshops

​​​​​​​​​​​​​​This series is a collaborative effort between all the University of California campuses and UCEAP to provide identity-based study abroad workshops, panels and information sessions for students across the UC system. Upcoming workshops include “Global Journeys, Personal Stories: Exploring your Heritage through Study Abroad” (April 17) and “Women Abroad” (April 29).

Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (Guangzhou) Summer Program

​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​This immersive summer program offers interdisciplinary courses across AI, sustainability, innovation management and more—taught by HKUST(GZ)’s global faculty. Two UC Davis students can participate tuition-free, including housing and insurance. Airfare is not included. Spots are offered on a first-come, first-served basis. France Excellence Graduate Scholars Program

​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​Full registration fee waiver for U.S. citizens for a master’s degree program at a French public institution. Includes full health insurance, access to cultural activities, networking, administrative and logistical support. Scholars are responsible for travel and living expenses. Must be in the process of applying for admission at time of deadline. Deadline: April 22.

2025 United States-Indonesia Society (USINDO) Summer Studies Program— Extended Deadline

June 3–August 8. A space just opened up in the USINDO Summer Studies Program, a 10-week immersive language and cultural experience in Indonesia this summer. The program includes international airfare, interactive lectures, field trips and a stay with a host family—for $2,000 or $500 for students who receive a needs-based scholarship. Apply. Undergraduate Research, Scholarship and Creative Activities Conference

​​​​​​​​​​​​​​April 25–26. Over 800 UC Davis undergraduates in all academic fields will present their research, which has been conducted under the supervision and mentorship of UC Davis faculty. The event is free and open to the public.

Breaking Stereotypes: Navigating Cultural Differences in the Global Workplace Workshop

​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​May 7, 5–7 p.m., virtual. Join students from across the Pacific Rim for a virtual discussion on Breaking Stereotypes: Navigating Cultural Differences in the Global Workplace.
