Accommodations
Students will stay in a hotel in Zagreb, Croatia, on the day of their arrival.
For the remainder of the program, students will be housed at the Blue World Institute Summer Program Guesthouse on Lošinj Island. Accommodations include shared rooms, classroom space, and a recreation area. The guesthouse is conveniently located near the coast and within walking distance of the island's downtown area.
UC Davis may have to change the accommodation location and type. Should this be necessary, we will arrange alternative lodging. Please note that elevators, air conditioners, WiFi and other conveniences may not be available in all locations.
Accommodations for your program may include same-gender or mixed-gender housing and rooms may be shared with one or more students. You may request a roommate, and we will do our best to consider mutual requests when making housing assignments and/or sharing them with our program partners. However, please note that roommate requests cannot be guaranteed, as housing arrangements depend on availability and local accommodations.
Meals
Breakfast will be provided each morning. Students are responsible for purchasing their own lunch and dinner at the nearby grocery stores, bakeries, cafés, and restaurants located within walking distance of the classroom and residence.
Excursions & Activities
- 2-day trip to Susak Island by boat (immersive cultural and environmental experience to an isolated island community with its own language)
- Blue World Institute Sea Turtle Sanctuary (Lošinj)
- Marine mammal monitoring programs (viewing local Dophins and Seals)
- Apoksiomen Archeological Museum (full-day excursion)
- Garden of Fine Senses (visit to experiential Botanical Garden)
- Lošinj town, harbor, piers, and beaches (guided walks, field activities, student independent exploration)
- Coastal and beach field excursions (ecosystem observations and interviews)

Zagreb
Croatia's capital is a city made for strolling. Its charming Upper Town, grand Austro-Hungarian architecture, lively cafés, colorful street art, and welcoming atmosphere make it an ideal introduction to Croatian culture before continuing to the coast. Learn more about Zagreb.
Mali Lošinj (Lošinj Island)
The largest town on Lošinj Island, Mali Lošinj sits along a picturesque natural harbor surrounded by pine forests, colorful waterfront homes, and crystal-clear Adriatic waters. Known for its relaxed atmosphere, maritime history, and beautiful coastline, it is an ideal setting for studying marine science and experiencing island life. Study Abroad Advisory of Student Risk
Participation in this UC Davis Study Abroad program requires travel to and extended living in a foreign location(s) abroad. UC Davis Study Abroad endeavors to reduce and mitigate risk wherever possible. However, the environments and risks associated with living in these locations are substantially different than those found during a regular course of study at UC Davis. All participants must download and review the following information prior to departure. Any questions should be directed to the Program Coordinator.
