Alison Moore

University Writing Program
Dr. Moore is a dedicated scholar and educator specializing in rhetoric and composition, with a focus on literacy equity and social justice. She teaches advanced composition, writing for social justice, journalism and first-year writing. Her research positions writing and composition at the heart of social justice efforts, fostering diversity, equity, and inclusion by integrating cross-disciplinary ideas and centering diverse viewpoints across a range of environments and communities. Dr. Moore weaves activism into her teaching philosophy, empowering students to use writing as a powerful tool for advocacy and societal change. A Sacramento native, Dr. Moore earned her PhD in Rhetoric and Composition from the University of Nevada, Reno; an MA in English from Sacramento State University; a BA in Literature from the University of California, Santa Cruz; and an AA in Liberal Arts from American River College.

Teaching, writing, and advocacy are at the core of who I am. They guide my work and fuel my passion for helping students find their voices to challenge injustice and create meaningful change. Writing, to me, is not just a skill but a powerful form of activism. I believe learning is a shared journey and that students bring vital perspectives that make every experience more impactful.
