Accommodations
Live on the Tecnológico de Monterrey, Querétaro Campus, where you'll stay in shared university residence halls alongside your UC Davis cohort. Living on campus places you within walking distance of classrooms, campus facilities, and opportunities to connect with Tecnológico de Monterrey students throughout the program.
Housing assignments are based on availability and are same-gender accommodations. While you may request a roommate, mutual requests cannot be guaranteed. In some cases, housing locations or room configurations may change before the program begins, and comparable accommodations will be provided if adjustments are necessary.
Meals
The program includes two meals per day (Monday–Saturday) at the Tecnológico de Monterrey campus cafeteria, along with a welcome meal and farewell meal. All other meals are the responsibility of the participant, giving you the opportunity to explore Querétaro's cafés, markets, and local restaurants with your classmates.
Excursions & Activities
Throughout the program, you'll apply concepts from the classroom during technical site visits, collaborate with faculty and peers, and explore how engineers address water resource challenges in central Mexico. Participation in program activities is a required component of the course and contributes to your overall academic experience.
Technical visits may include:
- Atotonilco Wastewater Treatment Plant (Planta de Tratamiento de Aguas Residuales Atotonilco), one of the largest wastewater treatment facilities in Latin America
- Querétaro State Water Commission (Comisión Estatal de Aguas de Querétaro) to learn about regional drinking water distribution, wastewater management, and public water infrastructure
- Viñedo Cote, where you'll examine sustainable water management practices used in agricultural production
Beyond the technical experience, you'll engage with the culture and community of Querétaro through activities that help you build relationships with your UC Davis cohort and Tecnológico de Monterrey students. Cultural experiences may include:
- Exploring the UNESCO World Heritage Historic Center of Querétaro
- Learning traditional Mexican dance during campus workshops
- Creating a handcrafted Lele doll while learning about regional traditions and artisanship
- Attending a baseball game at Finsus Stadium
- Watching sports matches on and off campus with local students
Together, these experiences connect engineering, sustainability, and intercultural learning while helping you develop a broader understanding of the communities and environments your work as an engineer can serve.
Get to Know Your Destination
Querétaro is one of Mexico's fastest-growing centers for engineering, manufacturing, and innovation while maintaining a rich cultural heritage. Home to a UNESCO World Heritage historic center, the city combines colonial architecture, vibrant public spaces, and a growing technology sector, making it an ideal setting to study sustainable infrastructure and environmental engineering.
Study Abroad Advisory of Student Risk
Participation in this UC Davis Study Abroad program requires travel to and extended living in a foreign location(s) abroad. UC Davis Study Abroad endeavors to reduce and mitigate risk wherever possible. However, the environments and risks associated with living in these locations are substantially different than those found during a regular course of study at UC Davis. All participants must download and review the following information prior to departure. Any questions should be directed to the Program Coordinator.
