Engineering Internships
Each UC Davis Summer Abroad Internship program pairs UC Davis Study Abroad with a partner organization that manages the personalized internship placements; arranges accommodations and excursions; leads onsite orientations and optional social events; and provides 24/7 emergency support. As part of the placement process for Summer Internships, participants will first enroll through UC Davis Study Abroad and then complete a supplemental application for the partner organization associated with their particular Summer Internship program.
Although Study Abroad partners with outside organizations for some aspects of Summer Abroad Internships, the official provider for these programs is UC Davis Study Abroad, and course credit is issued by UC Davis.
Internship Placement Process
After you enroll through UC Davis Study Abroad in the Engineering Internships in Singapore program, you will receive instructions for completing a separate online questionnaire with CIEE. The questionnaire asks you to provide personal information, and to specify your internship preferences. You will select three distinct fields that interest you in order to help the CIEE placement team prepare for your placement meeting. You will also be asked to upload your resume and a photo at the time you fill out the questionnaire. It’s important that you complete your CIEE questionnaire in a timely manner to stay on track for your placement application.
The internship placement process includes a phone or skype/zoom discussion with a member of the CIEE placement team to narrow down your goals and interests, as well as a phone or Skype interview(s) with potential internship companies. Interviews with host companies take place virtually, typically three to eight weeks prior to the program start. CIEE will secure relevant placement opportunities and help coordinate interviews for all students; however, the exact timing of the matching process depends on the individual profile and preferences articulated by the student and the performance of the student at the confirmation interview. In cases where the host company needs to be confirmed prior to submitting the visa paperwork, students are reminded that strong communications with the CIEE team and flexibility regarding the specific company will be important for the placement process.
Note: All enrolled students will be placed in an internship.
Students are encouraged to be open-minded and approach the program with a willingness to learn and grow, both professionally and personally. Final internship placement will be determined prior to departure.
Students will participate in a professional engineering related internship for at least 35 hours per week. Placements in the following fields will be limited:
- Civil Engineering
- Biomedical Engineering
- Chemical Engineering
- Electrical Engineering
- Cybersecurity Engineering
- Aerospace Engineering

Resume and Cover Letter Resources
We strongly recommend that all students meet with an advisor at the UC Davis Career Center or the Career Center on their home campus to have their resume and other supplemental documents reviewed (if applicable) prior to submitting these documents to CIEE.
Our Program Partner
UC Davis Study Abroad partners with CIEE, an organization dedicated to partnering with colleges and universities to provide high-quality student internships abroad that add value to their academic programs. The organization offers customized internship placements to provide students with hands-on, professional experience within their chosen field. Onsite, a team of CIEE staff will welcome students at the airport, lead the welcome orientation, coordinate and lead any group excursions and other program-related activities, and are on-call 24/7 for emergency support.
Transcript Notation
Students participating in UC Davis Study Abroad Internships are eligible to receive Transcript Notation (TN). Transcript notation documents your academically approved internship on your official UC Davis transcript. By having your experience noted, it provides proof of where and when you participated in an internship. This is especially valuable for international internships that may be difficult for a prospective employer or program to contact.
Transcript Notation is a process you’ll start within the first two weeks of your internship placement through Handshake, the tool UC Davis Career Center uses to connect students and employers.
