​​​​​​​​​​​​​​Student finalists have been announced for our annual UC Davis Study Abroad Photo Contest. Voting is now open to the public and will close on Friday, December 15. We have two voting categories this year: Places and People. Vote for your favorites!

Competitions, Challenges, and Funding

Blakemore Freeman Fellowships

​​​​​​​​​​​​​​This fellowship provides a stipend, tuition and travel expenses for intensive language study of Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Thai, Vietnamese, Indonesian, Khmer or Burmese in approved language programs in East or Southeast Asia. By the start of the grant, applicants should have received a bachelor’s degree and have the equivalent of three years of language study. Deadline: December 30.

James C. Gaither Junior Fellows

This fellowship provides a $3,916/month salary for 10-12 months, plus a $1,500 relocation allowance to work for one post-graduate year as a junior researcher at the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace. Applicants must be current seniors or recent graduates eligible to work in the U.S. and have significant research experience. Deadline: January 2.

Harry S. Truman Scholarship

​​​​​​​​​​​​​​This fellowship funds $30,000 towards a public service graduate degree along with conference attendance and a Washington D.C. internship. Applicants must be U.S. citizens enrolled full-time in their junior year with an interest in pursuing careers as public service leaders. Deadline: January 8.

Teaching Assistant Program in France (TAPIF)

​​​​​​​​​​​​​​TAPIF fellows receive a monthly stipend to teach for seven months in France. Applicants must be U.S. citizens and permanent residents, aged 20-35, with a bachelor’s degree by the program start, and who speak French at B1 level or above. Deadline: January 15.

U.S. Teaching Assistant Program (USTA) in Austria

​​​​​​​​​​​​​​140 USTA fellows will receive a stipend and medical insurance to teach English from October 1, 2024 – May 31, 2025, at secondary schools throughout Austria. Applicants must be U.S. citizens who hold bachelor’s degrees by the start of the program. Deadline: January 15.

Global Learning Awards Application

​​​​​​​​​​​​​​The Global Learning Awards application allows you to apply to any of the following awards: Marc Blanchard Comparative Literature Undergraduate Travel Award, Marion I. Froehlich Education Abroad Award, Guardian Scholars Study Abroad Award and Susan Toulson Study Abroad Award. Deadline: January 23.

Donald A. Strauss Scholarship

​​​​​​​​​​​​​​Scholarships of $15,000 are available to sophomore and junior level students of any citizenship status with a desire to “make a difference” in local, national or international communities. Recipients implement a sustainable public service project anywhere in the world. Deadline: February 1.

Udall Undergraduate Scholarship

​​​​​​​​​​​​​​This scholarship funds $7,000 and attendance at the Udall Scholars Leadership Conference for second or third-year students who are U.S. citizens, nationals or permanent residents planning careers to benefit the environment or Native American/American Indian tribes. Deadline: February 13.

Global Aggies Award for LGBTQIA+ Rights

​​​​​​​​​​​​​​This award supports UC Davis student global learning and engagement regarding the issues that LGBTQIA+ communities and individuals face around the world. This includes research or creative work, internships/externships or other projects that advance the rights and/or well-being of LGBTQIA+ people globally. Deadline: February 21.

UC Chile—Global Internships for Research and Practice-Based Learning

​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​This program aims to enhance and stimulate research collaboration at a global level, connecting Pontificia Universidad Católica De Chile (UC Chile) researchers with master’s and senior undergraduate international students within new, creative and innovative international research opportunities. Apply. Extended Deadline for UC Davis Students: December 15, 2023.

UC Davis Widening Circles—Global Social Impact Program

​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​June 24 – August 23. Explore pathways for learning and acting with purpose and humility in the face of global inequality and injustice. The program includes an online curriculum, guidance from mentors, peer-to-peer learning and digital storytelling. Funding and travel awards are available for UC Davis undergrad and grad students. Register for free.

Council on Foreign Relations Internship Opportunities (Virtual and In-Person)

​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​The Council on Foreign Relations’ Blavatnik Internship Program and Robina Franklin Williams Internship Program provides training in the field of foreign policy and international affairs through a variety of positions in NYC or D.C. Paid interns work alongside staff while gaining valuable experience through exposure to leading foreign policy experts.
