Program Overview

Spend spring quarter in the heart of London! Intern in a field of your choice and take two upper-division English courses. “Harry Potter in Context" taught by a UC Davis professor, explores how one of the most beloved young adult series in the world was shaped by medieval British literature, Shakespeare’s plays, gothic fiction, and even the architecture of Oxford. We will read Harry Potter, alongside older English classics, and visit sites of inspiration and fandom to consider the phenomenon of Harry Potter within the unique cultural context that London provides. A second course focuses on contemporary “British Life and Culture.” Fulfill your requirements for GE Writing Experience, Arts and Humanities, and World Cultures, as well as for the English major and minor. Take classes in fashionable Kensington and participate in a professional internship for 20 hours a week. Excursions in and outside of London are also an integral part of the program.

What Students Are Saying

  • “The most rewarding aspect of my experience was being able to embrace the London culture and become a “Londoner” for eleven weeks while doing everything I possibly could in that time.”
  • “My internship experience has been very unique and educational. I have been able to work one-on-one with students on countless occasions and learn how to work with students of a wide array of ages and needs. The internship team has been very helpful with any problem that has come up for me. The placement process was simple and easy. I had my interviews and got the internship I interviewed for.”
