Program Overview

For 2500 years, Rome has been a center of geo-political, intellectual, religious, and artistic influence that has shaped Western culture, and in this program, Rome is your classroom. Each day will be spent exploring the layers of history in Rome’s monuments, museums, churches, and in its piazzas, parks, markets and neighborhoods. Weekly day-trips will take us beyond Rome: to medieval hill towns with deep Etruscan roots; Ostia: the port city of ancient Rome; Florence, the birthplace of the Renaissance; and the lush gardens and bubbling fountains of Villa d’Este in Tivoli. On a two-night excursion to visit Naples and Sorrento, we will also explore ancient Pompeii. Through its history, art, cuisines and traditions, you will gain a deeper understanding of the Italy’s rich, diverse cultural tapestry. Taught in English.

Program Highlights

• Explore 2000 years of art and human achievements as you explore Rome and other Italian cities.
• Imagine the glories of the Roman Empire as you explore the Colosseum, the Forum, the Pantheon.
• Witness the masterpieces of Michelangelo, Botticelli, Raphael, Caravaggio, Bernini at the Vatican Museums and Borghese Gallery.
• Spend two nights in Sorrento and visit Naples and the Roman city of Pompeii, frozen in time since 79CE.
• Enjoy day trips to unique hill-towns like Etruscan Tarquinia, and Tivoli, where you can roam the lush gardens of Renaissance villa.
• You will stay in a vibrant, major European capital and can experience all it has to offer, including pizza, pasta and gelato!
