Summer Abroad Italy - On Site

Science of the Mind

Accommodations

You will stay at a residence hall in the San Vitale neighborhood of Bologna, about an 18-20 minute bus/walk to the Psychology department where class is held. Each suite has two double bedrooms with bathroom and accommodates up to four students. Each bedroom has two single beds with two students sharing a room.

Rooms include a weekly cleaning and towel/linen service. There are several common spaces throughout the residence hall: tutoring rooms, laundry room, multimedia room, break room, computer workstations, and outdoor areas.

UC Davis reserves the right to change the accommodation location. Should this be necessary, we will arrange alternative lodging. Please note that elevators, air conditioners and other modern conveniences may not be available in all locations.

Meals

Half-board at the residence hall canteen is included in the program fee. Breakfast is included seven days a week and dinner is included Monday-Thursday. A welcome dinner and lunch and a farewell dinner are also included in the program fee.

Lunches and meals during the weekends are not included so you can choose to take your meals elsewhere and experience Italy’s cuisine outside the residence hall.

Excursions and Day Trips

Through a local partnership, there is at least one activity a week included in the program. Tentative activities include:

  • Lunch and city tour
  • Afternoon trip to Parma
  • Afternoon trip to Modena
  • Cooking class
  • Overnight trip to Venice

Note: These activities, excursions, and locations may be subject to change.

Get to Know Your Destination

From Lonely Planet Bologna: Fusing elegance with down-to-earth grit, Bologna is a city of two halves. One side is a hard-working, high-tech city located in the super-rich Po valley where suave opera-goers waltz out of regal theatres and into some of the nation's finest restaurants. The other is a bolshie, politically edgy city that hosts the world's oldest university and is famous for its graffiti-embellished piazzas filled with students swapping Gothic fashion tips. Bologna celebrates a rich food legacy, is home to the city university founded in 1088, and is a city of terra cotta medieval buildings adorned with miles of porticoes.

Study Abroad Advisory of Student Risk

Participation in this UC Davis Study Abroad program requires travel to and extended living in a foreign location(s) abroad. UC Davis Study Abroad endeavors to reduce and mitigate risk wherever possible.  However, the environments and risks associated with living in these locations are substantially different than those found during a regular course of study at UC Davis. All participants must download and review the following information prior to departure. Any questions should be directed to the Program Coordinator.
