- Experience academic coursework enriched by both the program’s location(s) and activities.

Class Format
Your classroom experience makes use of the cities you visit to illustrate course material. Past participants describe this program as very active. On a daily basis, you can expect to be moving about the city through substantial walking, moderate bicycle tours, train and tram, bus, metro, or other non-vehicular means. The class generally meets five-six days a week with one-two days off on the weekends. The program instructor will provide more details with the syllabus.
Courses
You will enroll in the course set below. Auditing is not an option. UC Davis programs are academic programs so participants should expect a substantial amount of course work.
- Landscape Architecture (LDA) 191. Landscape Architecture Planning & Design Studio (4 units)
- Faculty initiated workshops featuring advanced studies and applications of original work in landscape architecture. May be taught abroad. May be repeated up to 20 unit(s).
- Environmental Science and Policy (ESP) 173. Land Use and Growth Controls (4 units)
- Exposes students to the economic, political, and legal factors affecting land use and growth controls, and helps students critically evaluate written materials in terms of their arguments and supporting data. May be taught abroad. GE credit: SS.
Graduate Course Options
Consent of the instructor and graduate standing is required in order to register for the graduate level courses.
- Landscape Architecture (LDA) 297. Practicum in Landscape Architecture (4 units, S/U grading only)
- Independent Study—1-10 hour(s). Prerequisite(s): Consent of Instructor. Graduate standing. Opportunity for students to work directly in the field with academics at other institutions or with professionals in an office setting. Gives experience beyond the confines of campus and allows direct interaction with the community.
- Landscape Architecture (LDA) 298. Group Study (4 units, S/U grading only)
- Variable. Prerequisite(s): Consent of Instructor. Graduate standing. This course includes participation on excursions and tours and attendance to guest lectures. Students are often asked to write reflective pieces. Assignment topics vary by program.
Prerequisites
Along with the general eligibility requirements, Study Abroad will be enforcing the completion of the following prerequisites. For non-UC Davis students, the prerequisite is the equivalent at your campus.
- Completion of one course in environmental policy (ESP)
- Upper division standing before departure (90+ quarter units or 60+ semester units)
Prerequisites can only be waived by individualized consent of instructor—please contact the instructor if you wish to discuss this option. Please note that you will be required to submit proof of prerequisites waived when submitting your enrollment. Failure to complete unwaived prerequisites prior to program departure can result in administrative withdrawal and fees owed accordingly.
