Summer Abroad Thailand

Climate Resilience in Thailand

Accommodations

Students will be using classroom and workspace at the campus of Chulalongkorn University in the Pathum Wan district of Bangkok.

Students will be living in a student residence about a 10-minute walk from the classroom space in studio rooms with two twin beds. The residence has wireless internet and air conditioning.

UC Davis reserves the right to change the accommodation location. Should this be necessary, we will arrange alternative lodging. Please note that elevators, air conditioners and other modern conveniences may not be available in all locations.

Meals

Students will not have cooking accommodations in their rooms, but eating out is very cheap—about $2-3/meal. There are plenty of locations surrounding the university and residence that can provide breakfast, lunch and dinner. Your instructor will point out good places to eat during the on-site orientation. The hotel offers breakfast for a small fee.

All meals will be included during the overnight trip, and there will be several group meals provided as excursions throughout the program.

Excursions and Day Trips

  • Visit Ayutthaya, a UNESCO World Heritage site
  • Travel through ‘klongs’ or water canals that have earned Bangkok the nickname “the Venice of the East”
  • Sample the floating markets, the Chatujak weekend market, and street food stalls
  • Visit famous public areas around the city, like Siam Square and Lumphini Park
  • Learn more about important ecological sites, such as Bangkrachao and Centenary Park
  • Spend 3 days and 2 nights exploring Khao Yai National Park, northeast of Bangkok
  • And more!

From Lonely Planet Thailand

Friendly and food-obsessed, hedonistic and historic, cultured and curious, Thailand tempts visitors with a smile as golden as the country's glittering temples and tropical beaches.

Study Abroad Advisory of Student Risk

Participation in this UC Davis Study Abroad program requires travel to and extended living in a foreign location(s) abroad. UC Davis Study Abroad endeavors to reduce and mitigate risk wherever possible. However, the environments and risks associated with living in these locations are substantially different than those found during a regular course of study at UC Davis. All participants must download and review the following information prior to departure. Any questions should be directed to the Program Coordinator.
